What is Microwave?
Microwave is basically an electromagnetic spectrum for which the freespace wavelength is less than 0.5m. It would be convenient to start with Wave length to describe theMicrowave Concepts . For a wave traveling say from an antenna the wave length is denoted by……

So Microwave means Higher frequency producing shorter wave length
Why it is so special?
Because of the shorter wave length ( higher frequency) the conventional componentsfor example resistor will no longer behave just as a resistor but as a lumped resistor.Meaning a resistor lead could act like an inductor. Why it happens? There is a property called skin effect takes place. Skin effect in simple term means at higherfrequency the energy of the wave tends to travel in the outer side of the conductorwhich sets up a large flux of lines causing the increase in inductive reactance, thusa resistor lead acts like inductor.
